What used for ?
Gentocil is an eye topical antibiotic.
Gentocil is indicated in the prevention and topical treatment of superficial eye infections by microorganisms sensitive to gentamicin, such as:
- Conjunctivitis;
- Corneal ulcer of bacterial origin;
- Keratitis and kerato-conjunctivitis;
- Blepharitis and blepharo-conjunctivitis.
Gentocil may also be used in the following situations:
- Prophylaxis of infection in the removal of a foreign body;
- After injury to the eyeball by physical agents;
- Burns;
- Pre- and postoperative eye surgeries.
How to use it ?
Use this medicine exactly as directed by your doctor. Talk to your pharmacist if you have any questions.
The dosage of Gentocil should be instituted by the doctor according to the needs of each case.
It is advised that the instructions given by the doctor be followed, since, according to the severity of the cases so the dosing criterion may be changed.
It is usually recommended to use eye drops during the day and ophthalmic ointment at night.
The most favorable time for the administration of the drug is at the discretion of the doctor.
The duration of treatment should be according to the doctor’s instructions.
However, the recommended average dosage in adults, the elderly and the paediatric population (≥ 1 month old) is as follows:
- Ophthalmic ointment gentocil: apply a small portion (approximately 1 cm) to the eye, two to three times a day on the affected eye(s).

Preparation of the tube (first use):

When preparing the tube always check if it has a lid (A),
base (tip) (B) and washer (C). If you don't have a washer, no

Carefully unset the base set (tip) and
cap. Remove the washer and throw it away.
Re-curl the base set (tip) and lid and
ensure that the aluminum film that seals the tube is

Before each administration:
After the preparation of the tube (if it is the first use), or in the following uses, follow the instructions below whenever you need to administer the medicine:

Hold the base (tip) of the tube with one hand and with the

When the first use of the ophthalmic ointment the first portion should be rejected.
Avoid contact of the tip with the fingers, with the eye, surrounding areas and other surfaces.
Place the ointment in the conjunctival sac (space between the eye and the eyelid) as indicated by your doctor.
Then re-curl the lid on the base (tip) of the tube.
Use in newborns
The safety and efficacy of Gentocil in newborns have not yet been established.
If you use more Gentocil than you should
No overdose cases are documented for the ophthalmic application pathway.
If you forget to use Gentocil
Do not give a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you have forgotten to apply a dose of Gentocil, apply it as soon as you remember. If, however, it is almost time for the next application do not apply the missing dose and follow the normal times from there.
